What is the Kingdom of God? Why did Jesus talk about it so much?

What is the Kingdom of God?
Jesus spoke about The Kingdom of God more than any other topic. The Kingdom of God is
simply the reign of God; wherever God exercises his sovereignty, dominion, influence, and
power. The Hebrew word for Kingdom in the Old Testament and its Greek equivalent in the New Testament simply
mean the “rule” or “reign” of something. For example, in the Old Testament book of Psalms
we read, “For the kingdom is the Lord’s, and He rules over all. The Lord has established
His kingdom in the heavens, and His sovereignty rules over all”.
So when Jesus says in the New Testament, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth,
as it is in heaven,” he is telling his followers to pray that God will exercise his power and
authority in the world so that His purposes and plans are accomplished in and through
his people. There is so much more to the kingdom of God
than just that though. During his ministry, Jesus told the religious leaders, “the kingdom
of God is in the midst of you.” (Luke 17:21). In other words, Jesus was saying, God, the
king of all, is here, breaking into this reality right now. Since Jesus was present, the kingdom
of God was present there among them at that moment.
The kingdom of God also means GOD HAS BECOME KING, not Caesar or any other religious or
political leader. See, Jesus didn’t die on the cross just to simply let us get into Heaven,
but dies as the king of the Jews, and brings a triumphant conclusion to the long story
of Yahweh’s victory over the powers of sin and death. So the atonement work of Jesus
is actually pointing us to a greater future of new covenant and new creation which is
the inauguration of the kingdom of God through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
We are not saved just to live with God forever after we die…No, but God saves us in order
to work through us. Revelation says we will rule and reign on the earth with God and he
calls us to start that work in the here and now! God wants his world to be ruled by humble,
forgiven sinners who love him more than anything else. SO, the kingdom of God is present wherever
we bring Jesus to people through love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness,
and self-control. God wants to renew and redeem people so they can then go and renew and redeem
others. So we live in this “Now and Not Yet” period
of time where the kingdom of God has been launched in and through of life, death, and
resurrection of Jesus, but it has not yet been fully consummated. Since the resurrection
and ascension of Jesus, the Church has continued God’s kingdom-building project with the help
of his Holy Spirit and we must continue this project by praying and acting on the ultimate
prayer Jesus himself taught us to pray, that his kingdom would come, and his will would
be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. God will finish this great task when Jesus returns
to make “all things new” as Revelation 21:5 says AND THAT is when the kingdom of God will
be fully completed “on earth as it is in heaven.”

Love your videos. Could you please explain the difference between "pre, mid or post tribulation" and which one is correct? Thanks and God bless you!!

  • Brian Gammill says:

This is a nice introduction, until the third minute when the video digresses away from the biblical teaching of the kingdom. For example, we are not called to "build" a kingdom. The kingdom (reign of God through his Messiah) comes as people live under his authority. Serving the King is also the pathway to salvation (obeying his voice, doing his will, not just doing things we think are good). It's good that you are bringing this issue to people's attention, however. The teaching of the Kingdom is the mystery that God's people should be exploring.

Seeking the Kingdom first means doing God’s will in order to please him. Seeking his righteousness includes trying to live according to his values and perfect standards and not our own. (Romans 12:2.) This way of life involves our very relationship with Jehovah. It is not a matter of obeying his laws out of fear of punishment. Rather, our love for God motivates us to endeavor to please him by upholding his standards, not establishing our own. We realize that this is the right thing to do, the very thing that we have been designed to do. Like Jesus Christ, the King of God’s Kingdom, we must love righteousness.—Heb. 1:8, 9.

  • Marie Ega says:

What is the Kingdom of God? Why Jesus did talk about it so much? For dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations. (Psalm 22:28). The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.(Psalm 103:19). Neither shall they say, ‘Lo, it is here!’ or ‘Lo, it is there!’ For behold, the Kingdom of God is within you.”(Luke 17:21). But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.(Galatians 5:22-23).You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth."(Revelation 5:10). Thank you God, JC, 3-ology all GBU:)

    1. People don't go to heaven, the earth and the universe, the natural realm was created for man. This heaven concept is how people accept death. Yet it was Jesus who said "raise the dead" thus indicating that life here and now is the goal.

    2. Jesus did not die to save us from our sins. Find the verse that says that. You can't because it's not there. That's traditional religion, not truth.

I know this because i have studied and taught the Hebrew and Greek languages along with history for 30 years. People still don't understand what Jesus came for and what happened and why, nor do they even contemplate the macro picture of what is going on.

So so close my friend, keep seeking the kingdom. When a believer lays hands on the sick and they are healed, when a believer drives out a demon, this is the manifestation of the kingdom. The violent take the kingdom and manifest it on the earth by force. Gives us some idea of how the Holy Spirit is dealing harshly with our enemy when this happens. Jesus says if he drives out a demon by the finger of God then the kingdom has come upon you.

  • Brian Hyde says:

There is "the kingdom of God" and God's will (the domain of the spirit).  There is "the kingdom of men" and man's will (the domain of the flesh). The former is the experience of life in the spirit. The latter is life in the flesh. The "kingdom of God" is all around us and within–it is a figure for wherever God is, for God is Spirit. Wherever the Spirit is leading and directing, then right there the kingdom of God is "reigning" in a special way. Hence, "thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth (man) as it is in heaven".  But what does it mean to "see" and "enter" the "kingdom of God"? (See Jn 3:3, 5) "See" and "enter" are not about the physical but about the spiritual. This is the use of metaphor for spiritually realising the kingdom within. When the will of God is being done within, then you are said to "enter the kingdom" or you are said to "see the kingdom". The converse is true.  One can fail to "enter" or fail to "see" "the kingdom of God" for various reasons, such as an inflated ego, or pride. This is why Jesus said unless we are humble like a child is, we cannot "enter the kingdom" (Jn 3:3).  It is exactly the same with "holiness"  It is said that without holiness no man can see the Lord." (Heb 12:14)  This text is about "living in peace with everyone" for this is what it means to be holy ("set apart"). Did these people literally "see the Lord"  Of course not. They realised his glory experientially.  Friends, these peculiar terms we find throughout NT scripture (i.e. enter, see, inherit) are simply highly figurative ways of describing the activity (or non-activity) of life within our spirit.

  • lerinnenatalia says:

The kingdom of God is indeed a heavenly government, that will reign over the earth. Hence the model prayer Jesus taught us. (Matt. 6:10) But in order to accurately understand the meaning of Gods kingdom Jesus also left us illustrations to make things clearer. At Matt 13:47 he likened the Kingdom to a dragnet gathering many fish, and after the fish were caught, the good ones were separated and the bad ones were thrown away. He continues to say in verse 49 and 50, 'that is how the conclusion of the system of things will be. The angels will separate the wicked from the righteous.'
So, why did Jesus liken the kingdom of God to gathering many people? And more importantly, what is the conclusion of the system of things? At Matt 28:19, 20, Jesus said, 'Go therefore, and make disciples….and I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.' Lastly, consider the model prayer Jesus taught us. if Gods will is to be done on earth, why would all good humans go to heaven? (Psalm 37:29)

One reason that Jesus was water baptized , was to demonstrate that he was instituting water baptism as the entrance requirement into the kingdom of God…
The purpose of Water baptism is to show that you are buried, dying to the kingdom of the world, and rising (being born again) to new life in God's kingdom….
Those who have not had water baptism, have NOT followed Jesus example, which is his entrance requirement….
That is why the description in the NT of every person believing on Christ, was always water baptized the same day if possible…..
For those who wish to believe otherwise, that's their choice ….

  • AmericanBerean says:

Your description of the kingdom of God is true in the level you describe it, but it is also more than metaphor. It is a real, visible society and it's inhabitants are led by bishops who are successors to the first generation of bishops (the Apostles). Let me explain…. all this is found in Samuels, Kings, Chronicles, Psalms, Gospels…
Jesus is Messiah, as you mentioned. This is from Hebrew mashee'ach, meaning anointed. All the kings of Israel were known as the "anointed one", since they were ordained and anointed to the throne by God's prophet. So, Jesus is king over Israel. But Israel was broken and dispersed at the time, ten tribes having been assimilated into gentiles when Assyria conquered them (they were called Samaritans in Jesus' day.) Well, Jesus became Messiah when John baptised him and the Holy Spirit desended on Him, thus anointing Him king. Jesus' first words in His public ministry were "The kingdom of God is at hand, repent and believe the Gospel". During His three years' ministry Jesus effectively reunited the lost ten tribes with the extant two, restoring the Davidic Kingdom of Israel . The kingdom of Israel was the earthly side of the kingdom of God and was aka kingdom of God, kingdom of the LORD, kingdom of heaven. Jesus restored it and called it His Church (Matt16:19ff), emplacing the Apostles (Luke22:29-30) over it to lead/teach/guard/discipline the inhabitants of the kingdom/Church.

I don't want to go to heaven to live…it doesn't make sense….why would God create us to enjoy his creation here on earth then go to heaven? I would rather live in the paradise Earth that was his purpose wasn't it? Adam n Eve were told that's what their job was…make babies n enjoy the paradise… obviously they disobeyed God but Jesus came through to pretty much sacrifice himself…it would only have taken a "perfect" man to undo what "Adam" did

What is the kingdom of God?

Daniel 7:13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. (KJV)

Who is one like, "the Son of man"?

The kingdom of God is a government which will rule over, "all people, nations, and languages".

    Will Jesus have helpers?

Daniel 7:27 And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him. (KJV)

  • Flakes says:

You're not taking the Kingdom of God in a literal sense, its not JUST about doing good deeds through Christ because this world is fallen, not matter how many good works we do to help it, its still fallen. God WILL come back in the flesh on a day of Judgement and only those who have accepted Christ into their hearts will inherit the eternal Kingdom of God where God himself reigns, not THROUGH us but OVER us and his entire creation. A new heaven and a new earth, reunited and forever and ever, amen.

Seek Ye First the Kingdom of GOD and His Righteousness

The Christian Church Do NOT Understand What is the Righteousness of God

    Matthew 6:33
    33) But seek ye first the kingdom of God , and his righteousness ; and all these things shall be added unto you.

It Starts with the LORD's Prayer

    Matthew 6:9

    9) After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name .

Hallowed means Holy which is to be Set Apart for God the Almighty

    Leviticus 19:2 -3

    2) Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel , and say unto them , Ye shall be holy :
for I the LORD your God am holy .

Which Means You Are Commanded to Keep the Sabbath

    3) Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths : I am the LORD your God .

    1 Peter 2:9

    9) But ye are a chosen generation , a royal priesthood , an holy nation , a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him
who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light :

    What is Righteousness

    Deuteronomy 6:25

    25) And it shall be our righteousness , if we observe to do all these commandments
before the LORD our God , as he hath commanded us .

    Matthew 6:33
    33) But seek ye first the kingdom of God , and his righteousness ; and all these things shall be added unto you.

    Mark 12:29-30

    29) And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is , Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord :

    30) And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart , and with all thy soul , and with all thy mind , and *with all thy strength*:
this is the first commandment .

    Mark 12:31

    31) And the second * is like, namely this, *Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself .
There is none other commandment greater than these.

  • Don't Kill Yourself Before You're Dead says:

The kingdom is just as good as its people. The only law in the kingdom of God is LOVE. He who loves will enter the kingdom of God because the kingdom falls without love.
That's why Adam and Eve was cast out of Eden because they don't have love in their hearts. Adam didn't have forgiveness in his heart that he blamed Eve for his sins. Love cancels out all blames. He who loves is humble and forgiving. Instead of asking for forgiveness from God, Adam blamed and didn't accept his sin.
That's why it's important to love your neighbor as yourself. To be humble in spirit and to be forgiving is a must for by these laws the Kingdom of God will be established. Do you long for the success and welfare of your neighbor? Good. You are saved. He whose heart is pure and clothed with God's love will surely be saved.

  • Luke sky Walker says:

I watch as people do not understand what Gods Kingdom is, after all Jesus was arrested for promoting it, or was he not arrested for "Sedition" undermining a Government, HOW? By preaching a new Government, "GODS Government" God has nothing to do with these Governments here on earth, even though they try to come off as followers of God, He has no use for any establishment allowing sinful life styles against his very words, he destroyed Cities and people in the past for this, and they were set as a warning to us. Besides who controls the Governments here on the Earth? "Satan took Jesus to a high place and showed him all the kingdoms of the earth, Just bow down and do one act of worship to me and all these kingdoms will be yours" Did Jesus tell Satan these kingdoms are not yours to give away? NO cause Satan was cast down to the earth and Gods will was done in heaven, it was cleansed of wickedness, and one day that will happen here on earth, Gods will is for man to live by his laws and fill the earth with Love for fellow man, No better way than under Gods direction with Jesus as king. Where else does the Meek inherit the earth? Is there a earth i do not know about? Where else will the lion lay down with the lamb and child play on the hole of the cobra? In all Gods holy mountain there will be No Harm…..You look to go to heaven, i look to remain on this beautiful earth and reside in peace and Love. Yes Jesus preached the GOOD NEWS of all this and was arrested for promoting himself as a king yet his kingdom was not of this earth it was Heavenly and he would pick those that serve in his kingdom, No better people to serve over the earth but those that lived on the earth and suffered life here. Yes they go to heaven to serve as Kings and priest under Jesus, But the worst is yet to come for mankind as Jesus will come, unexpected, destroying Satan's world and all Satan's followers with it. Yet Satan will not be destroyed as he will be Chained up for a thousand year reign of Jesus then he will be turned loose to try and persuade mankind once more to turn against God, the Bible says some will follow Satan, but in the end Satan, his followers, and his world of Governments will be destroyed…Gods Kingdom is more than a mere thought in mans mind, its real and in heaven separating people today for life or eternal death…..Time is short, we are living in the late evening hours of the last days, you will know this by the way things are going, Jesus gave us the signs we would be in the last days, it has been going on for a long, long time, Women having no NATURAL affection as they kill their children and Rape, murder, Gangs, I do not have to continue, this is the end of time, those embracing this system of things will go down with its leader, Satan….

The best life is when we come or attain a truly mature state spiritually by the help of the Holy Spirit. God help us all to understand it's important

  • Leone Salvatore says:

What I mean by the Kingdom of god is that the Will of god comes and is spread over the world-system to humanity, and also with the Norms of society where the World becomes one with god's will! That the Kingdom of god comes with the return of jesus, I am convinced that it is a fake prophecy of the truth that has been made by the Christians! As we know, all religion has been misused and changed for power and interest! The Torah says that jesus was not the Messiah and that messianic time is given to our world! But I believe that jesus was a man of god and his teaching is a great wisdom and a way of god! If we look at capitalism we can see very well that it does not come from god and of his kingdom! When we look at terrorism and how they want to shape the world, we can also clearly say that it is not from the Kingdom of god! Under the Kingdom of god, I understand that it is a kingdom where people all over the world live good! Where there is no poverty and no wealthy where all people live in prosperity and share all resources! And where people live under the Rule of gods law! For example, humanity no longer lives in a performance society! The husband and wife do not cooperate for interests! Where nature is respected and thriving! That you do not exploit other people! All these things what capitalism does not allow and spoils the humanity! If we had a different system then things would be different! And when we have the right system and live and strive for! Then we would be very near for God's sake and his kingdom!

Jesus was not saying that the kingdom is in the midst of you because He was God Himself. God sent His Son to come to earth to represent His Father and to die for our sins. Jesus is the Son of God, not the God that He is the Son of.
