Milarepa’s Best Friend

The great teacher Milarepa said: “First, the meditation
on impermanence of death was good for me, because it became an inspiration for me to practice,
for the dharma, at the beginning. Secondly, when I went
into the mountains and meditated, the meditation
on impermanence of death became my best friend. When I felt sad,
I meditated on impermanence. When I felt alone,
I meditated on impermanence. When I felt I was not enough,
I meditated on impermanence. When I felt arrogant,
I meditated on impermanence.” So this meditation
became like a best friend to him. “By the end, I learned that impermanence,
that death, is not real. I can go beyond impermanence. Now, I realized… the nature of impermanence which is beyond
impermanence and death. Its nature is unborn.” Your true nature,
buddha nature, is unborn. It is not only your nature,
all phenomena are unborn, and that is why no-one
is going to die. “I have achieved
the realization of the unborn, the dharmakaya.” That is the fruition.
