Allah, Almighty, said at Surah Ali’Imran “If a wound should touch you – there has already touched the [opposing] people a wound similar to it..” 3″140 “.. And these days [of varying conditions] We alternate among the people.. ” “.. so that Allah may make evident those who believe.. ” “.. and [may] take to Himself from among you martyrs.. ” “.. and Allah does not like the wrongdoers.” “And that Allah may purify the believers [through trials].. ” 3:141 :.. and destroy the disbelievers.” “Or do you think that you will enter Paradise.. ” 3:142 “..while Allah has not yet made evident those of you who fight in His cause.. ” “.. and made evident those who are steadfast?” “And you had certainly wished for martyrdom before you encountered it.. ” 3:143 “.. and you have [now] seen it [before you] while you were looking on.” The verses are about the events.. at the battle of Uhud. The Lord of Dignity and Glory says: “If a wound[Qarh] should touch you – there has already touched the [opposing] people a wound similar to it.. ” the word; [Al-Qarh].. means; the wound. But it doesn’t mean a cut wound on skin.. as we know it. But, here it means.. that which have affected the believers.. the victory of their enemy. The Lord of Dignity said: “If a wound should touch you.. ” “.. there has already touched the people.. ” i.e. Quraish. “.. a wound similar to it.. ” The scholars, may Allah put mercy upon them.. they have two explanations here.. the best, which is of Al-Jomhoor.. And this is my opinion.. the meaning is.. what has affected Quraish at the day of Badr. Some scholars said: “.. there has already touched the [opposing] people a wound similar to it.. ” i.e. at the beginning of the battle of Uhud. Allah, Almighty, said: “If a wound should touch you[Yamsaskum].. ” and the verb; [Yamsaskum] is in the present tense. And, when He talked about Quraish.. He said: “.. there has already touched[Massa] the [opposing] people a wound similar to it.. ” and the verb in the sentence is in the past tense. Because Uhud has recently occurred.. Allah has used the present tense; [Yamsaskum]. And, because Badr had occurred some time ago.. Allah has used the past tense in the verse; “.. there has already touched the [opposing] people a wound similar to it.. ” And the meaning is.. today, you’ve lost 70 men.. and as for them.. 70 of them were killed in Badr.. and 70 of them were caught in captivity.. 70 men of them were killed.. And.. 70 of them were taken prisoners.. As Allah has said in another verse.. “Why [is it that] when a [single] disaster struck you [on the day of Uhud].. ” 3:165 “.. although you had struck [the enemy in the battle of Badr] with one twice as great.. ” So, the meaning of; although you had struck with one twice as great. is that; you’ve captured 70 men and killed 70 men from the disbelievers. Then, Allah, Almighty, said: “.. And these days [of varying conditions].. ” “.. We alternate among the people.. ” Before we move to this part of the verse.. “.. And these days, We alternate among the people.. ” let’s discuss the word; [Al-Qarh] linguistically. we said it means; the wound. and the word can be pronounced as; [Al-Qorh] and this is well known in two Arabic languages.. and, according to them.. we have two authentic methods of reading this verse. Then, the Lord of Dignity said: “.. And these days, We alternate[Nodawiloha] among the people.. ” The process of alternation.. is a constant divine procedure.. It wasn’t a destiny from Allah.. it wasn’t meant to be.. that people of Islam would win all the battles. and it wasn’t destined.. that the enemies of Islam.. would win victory against Muslims.. on all battles. Because, if it was destined from Allah.. that Muslims would win all the battles. or it was destined that.. the disbelievers would win all the battles.. then, this would deny a crucial matter upon which Deen is based on. and that is.. testing people with ordeals. Because, Allah, Almighty, inflicts with hardships to test people.. So, if Muslims, at all battles.. even if among them was the messenger and.. the trusted by the Lord of Heaven.. If each time the Muslims would.. win the battle.. then, no one would have doubts.. or suspicions about the religion of Allah. and, it won’t be necessary to test people. And, if.. the disbelievers would defeat the Muslims every time.. then, no one would believe. in a religion that never wins, not even once. So, the infliction can’t be applied here or there.. Because of this, Allah, Almighty, said: “.. And these days We alternate among the people.. ” And later.. after the treaty of Al-Hudaybiyah.. Abu Sufyan met with the Caesar.. He asked him about the situation with the prophet, SAW.. and, at that time he wasn’t a believer yet, he said: ‘The fight between us is alternating.’ Then Caesar said to him; ‘This is how it is with messengers… they win and lose.. and the final round is for them.’ This is the case with messengers.. they win and lose.. and finally they win. The Lord of Dignity said: “.. And these days [of varying conditions].. ” “.. We alternate among the people.. ” Any one.. would imagine that the prosperity he is enjoying.. will not be followed by evilness.. then, he is not aware of the laws of Allah, Almighty, on life.. And, a person thinking that the wickedness and the hardship he is experiencing.. will not be followed by relief.. then, he didn’t know yet.. the laws of Allah, Almighty, on life.. This indicates the intellectual power of Yusuf.. when he interpreted the dream about the 7 years.. because in the dream of the king.. there was nothing like; A year at which people will have rain and, will press olives and grapes. what was there were; Seven fat cows and seven lean cows.. and seven green spikes of grain, and others that were dry. So, the king didn’t say anything about a year.. at which people will have rain and, will press olives and grapes. But, when the king said they were 7 years.. the prophet of Allah new that the 8th year won’t be like them.. and everything will end by the end of the seventh year. He said: “Then will come after that a year.. ” 12:48 “.. in which the people will be given rain and in which they will press [olives and grapes].”. ” Our Lord, Almighty, said here: “..And these days [of varying conditions].. ” “.. We alternate among the people.. ” Allah, Almight, tests people.. by making the person wealthy or poor.. or by giving.. or by preventing The command is His and the creations belong to Him! and the sovereignty is His. And, on our way to Allah.. we are either in prosperity or in hardship. And, while striving to Allah, you will be either in prosperity or in hardship. So, if it was prosperous.. be grateful to Allah. And, if it was hard then, praise Allah.. and show patience.. Once.. Al-Mu’tamid Ibn Abbad.. [you might have heard this story before]. He owned.. some.. provinces in Al-Andalous.. at his time. One day, his wife wanted.. after seeing some village women.. poor women, in a rainy day.. walking on mud. So, she liked.. and she was the wife of the governor.. to walk on mud. So, it was hard for him to let his wife and his daughters walk on mud. So, he brought musk substance camphor.. and natural Amber.. they are very expensive substances used in perfumes.. then, he mixed them.. and spread them on the floor of his palace.. Then he allowed his wife and his daughters.. to walk on it. So, the miserable poor women walk on mud.. but, you can walk in a rainy day .. on Musk, Camphor, and Amber.. on similar substances.. substances people cannot have them easily.. Then.. Days went on.. And he was taken to prison. by Yusuf Bin Tashfeen in the prison called; Aghmad. And his wife and his daughters were lost among people.. till they became poor. not having, even a footwear.. Then, they were allowed to visit him.. in his prison, at Eid Day.. So, they went to him.. his daughters and his wife.. at an Eid Day.. and they were.. almost naked, because of poverty.. barefooted.. not having footwear. When he saw them, he remembered the past days.. and he said few lines of poetry.. to give a lesson to others. So, when a person is in prosperity.. Focus on the One.. the only One. the Eternal Single Refuge.. the Lord of Dignity and Glory. thanking Him. Then, the Lord of Dignity said: “.. so that Allah may make evident those who believe.. ” “.. and [may] take to Himself from among you martyrs.. ” Martyrdom.. in the cause of Allah.. is a very high status.. it is not given to whoever he wants.. So, being a martyr is a great status.. in a high position.. each believer is looking forward to having it.. But, it is not given to everyone. e.g. Khalid has fought Persians and Romans.. but, he died on his bed! And, Osairum Bani Abd Al-Ash’hal.. He entered Islam, just before the battle of Uhud.. And, he didn’t prostrate to Allah, in Salat.. even once! he wanted to gain the approval of Allah, and His Akhirah. So, he was killed at the Day of Uhud.. and gained martyrdom. Because of this, Allah said: “.. so that Allah may make evident those who believe.. ” “.. and [may] take to Himself from among you martyrs.. ” Then, He, Almighty, said: “.. and Allah does not like the wrongdoers. ” Man should run away from all that.. which Allah said about them; He doesn’t like. And the word; wrongdoing here means; the disbelief. but, it may include.. not as the main intended meaning.. Every wrongdoer.. may Allah protect us all from wrongdoing.. So, villain behaviour with others.. have the risk of distancing the servant from the love of his Lord. wrongdoing to others, will distance the love of the Lord away. Abu Ad-Dardaa was.. may Allah be pleased of him and please him.. he had a camel, called; Dammon. that was its name, as he called it. He used to make it carry, not more than its capacity.. and when people borrow it from Abi Ad-Dardaa.. he gives it to them.. under one condition, not to make it carry a heavy load above its ability to carry. and people agree. Till the day, Abu Ad-Dardaa was about to die.. So, he looked at his camel and said to it; ‘O Dammon.. don’t stand tomorrow, in front of Allah.. telling Him that I’ve wronged you.’ That was with an animal.. that can’t talk.. doesn’t know, doesn’t speak.. He was fearing Allah, Almighty, concerning it! And, as for us, we might have many individuals.. people whom Allah, Almighty, has subdued them to help us.. then a man or a woman from us wrongs them.. carelessly.. as if he/she won’t meet Allah, Almight, at all! event though, he/she is a believer.. who believes in meeting Allah.. Allah, Almighty, said: “.. and Allah does not like the wrongdoers. ” Then, He, Almighty, said: “And that Allah may purify the believers [through trials].. ” 3:141 “.. and destroy[Yamhaq] the disbelievers. ” Some people of knowledge say.. [Mahq] is destruction. And for me, it is unlikely.. and a closer explanation of the word.. [Al-Mahq].. indicates the diminution. Allah, Almighty, said: “Allah [Yamhaq] interest.. ” 2:276 “.. and gives increase for charities.. ” And here He said; [Yamhaq] the disbelievers. and we know that the disbelievers.. Allah didn’t destroy them totally.. But, He decreased their number. and tortured them. Allah, Almighty, said: “That He might cut down a section of the disbelievers.. ” 3:127 Here, our Lord, Almighty, said: “And that Allah may purify the believers [through trials] and destroy the disbelievers.” Then, the Lord of Dignity said: “Or[Amm] do you think.. ” 3:142 [Amm] here means[Bal=rather.] “Or do you think that you will enter Paradise.. ” “.. while Allah has not yet made evident those of you who fight in His cause.. ” “.. and made evident those who are steadfast?” Al-Jannah.. is a high status.. Allah, Almighty, has prepared it to reward those who obey Him. inside it, are all that the eyes have never seen, and the ears have never heard.. things never occured to the minds of humans Allah, Almighty, has prepared it for the believers. And the believers.. who died believing in the Tawheed.. they enterAl-Jannah.. in different ways.. and collectively in two ways.. From the believers.. those who will enter Jannah.. without judgment.. and without punishment. they will pass [As-Sirat] the Path.. then, will pass [Al-Qantarah], the bridge.. and this is just before Al-Jannah.. Then at the door of Al-Jannah, with the prophet, SAW, and after him.. they will enter it. So, they will not be punished at all. Not in their graves.. nor while entering Al-Jannah. And, the others.. they will enter in different ways.. some of them.. might be punished at Dunya.. slightly, because of a sins they had done. a purification by testing. Or they will have the punishment, later, in the graves. So, after punishment in the graves, for sometime.. they will compensate for some of their sins. Sometimes, the punishment in the grave.. is not enough as reparation for guilt.. because, the sin is bigger than the grave punishment. So, at Resurrection Day.. a person will be treated hard.. at Resurrection Day, he will suffer severely.. But, yet.. the level of sin might need more than just being rough.. So, while passing on Sirat.. he might be touched by the Fire, scratching him.. and then, he will pass.. but with the mark of burning.. Then he will be purified to enter Al-Jannah. Some servants.. might have some mistakes and big sins.. guilts that Allah didn’t forgive them.. then, they will enter the Fire.. before entering Jannah.. and the Fire will burn all their bodies.. except the sites of Sujud. Allah didn’t authorize the Fire.. to be able to.. burn the sites of Sujud. If man would reflect upon this.. that the Fire.. is unable.. to burn the sites of Sujud. then, a person would never feel bored with prostration.. praying to the Lord of the worlds, Almighty. Nothing that.. makes Deen steadfast.. greater than.. the pleasure of Sujud.. to the Lord of the worlds. And the situation that a human can acquire.. cannot be greater, or more honorable.. than the moment when he is in Sujud.. to Allah, Almighty. And, people in Sujud to Allah.. apparently.. they are the same! But, their intentions.. and their submission.. and their words of Tasbeeh.. they are apart, like between heaven and earth. At levels! and ranks.. only Allah knows them. Allah, Almighty, said, about the magicians of Pharaoh: “So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah ].” 26:46 :They said, “We have believed in the Lord of the worlds. ” 26:47 “The Lord of Moses and Aaron.”. ” 26:48 After that.. Pharaoh threatened them.. And, they know who is pharaoh. “.. So I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides.. ” 20:71 “.. and I will crucify you on the trunks of palm trees.. ” “.. and you will surely know which of us is more severe in [giving] punishment and more enduring.”. ” They didn’t know any rituals of Ibadah.. they didn’t read Torah.. actually, Torah wasn’t revealed yet. Torah was revealed after this incident. Moses didn’t bring Torah to Pharaoh. but, it was revealed upon him when he was in the loss land. They never read books.. they never learned.. they never prayed Salat.. all what they’ve done was.. they prostrated to Allah. So, when Pharaoh threatened them.. Allah said, they said to him.. “They said, “Never will we prefer you over what has come to us of clear proofs and [over] He who created us.. ” 20:72 “.. So decree whatever you are to decree. You can only decree for this worldly life.
” “Indeed, we have believed in our Lord that He may forgive us.. ” 20:73 “.. our sins and what you compelled us [to do] of magic.. ” “.. And Allah is better and more enduring.”. ” “Indeed, whoever comes to his Lord as a criminal.. ” 20:74 “.. indeed, for him is Hell; he will neither die therein nor live.” “But whoever comes to Him as a believer having done righteous deeds.. ” 20:75 “.. for those will be the highest degrees [in position]. ” Till He said: ” And that is the reward of one who purifies himself.” 20:76 All these bright words.. were implanted in their hearts.. and they endured saying them.. with patience.. after they’ve prostrated to Allah.. the Lord of the words, Almighty. The point is.. The actions that bring the servant nearer to Allah, Almighty. Allah, Almighty, said: “And that Allah may purify the believers [through trials] and destroy the disbelievers.” “Or do you think th.. “at you will enter Paradise “while Allah has not yet made evident those of you who fight in His cause and made evident those who are steadfast?” Then, the Lord of Dignity said: “And you had certainly.. ” 3:143 “.. wished for martyrdom before you encountered it.. ” “.. and you have [now] seen it [before you] while you were looking. ” What is death? death is.. the soul leaving the body.. completely. This is death. What is the meaning of; you had certainly wished for martyrdom before you encountered it? i.e. you were wishing to have the causes of death. you wished to meet the enemy! and, meeting the enemy is a cause of death. But, the believer should ask Allah, Almighty.. all the time.. for the wellbeing. So, this is a reproach.. from the Lord of the worlds, Almighty.. to the companions of the messenger, SAW.. who had insisted to go out to meet the enemy. Because of that, the prophet, SAW, said to his uncle Al-Abbas: ‘O Abbas, ask Allah the wellbeing. Here, Allah, Almighty, said: “And you had certainly wished for martyrdom.. ” “.. before you encountered it.. ” “.. and you have [now] seen it [before you] while you were looking on.” i.e. you did see.. with your eyes.. causes of death. when the enemy attacked you.. and defeated you.. by a will from Allah. Another related point.. when a person was severely ill.. or suffering an ordeal or affliction.. Have he a legitimate right.. to wish death.. or not? Al-Jomhoor, of the people of knowledge forbid such behavior.. and their evidence.. which is right.. the Prophet, SAW, said: ‘a person shouldn’t wish death because he is suffering.. but, if he is to say a thing, he can say; Allahumma give me life as long as life is better for me,, and give me death, if death is better for me.’ And, the believer should not despair.. or lose hope in the mercy of his Lord. And, he must run to Allah, Almighty.. with asking his Lord.. depending on Him and seeking His refuge. Because, Allah, Almighty, answers who asks him. and responds to who calls Him. I ask Allah, Almighty, to accept from us all.. and to grant us the wellbeing.. and to forgive all our sins.. and to help us obeying Him.. and to bring us close to His approval.. and to protect us with His protection.. Indeed my Lord is hearing our Du’aa. And may Salat be upon Muhammad and his family. And [All] praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
